Ixhualtan

Ixhuatlán del Café is a municipality located in the central mountainous region of the state of Veracruz, approximately 55 kilometers from Xalapa. Nestled between 800 and 1,900 meters above sea level, the area enjoys a temperate-humid climate that is ideal for coffee cultivation. The name Ixhuatlán comes from the Náhuatl language and means 'place among green corn leaves.' Historically, the municipality has been closely linked to agriculture, particularly coffee production - a connection that led to the name Ixhuatlán del Café, officially adopted in 1956.Coffee farming is the main economic activity in Ixhuatlán del Café. Thanks to its geographical location and favorable climate, the region produces high-altitude specialty coffee. Many families depend on coffee and are involved in every stage of the process - from planting and harvesting to wet milling and marketing. Approximately 2,000 certified coffee producing families from Ixhuatlán del Café and nearby communities actively participate in the production and sale of coffee.
